Blogged by Shawn Collins - Brokerage Firm Affiliate Programs
I was wondering if you knew why big CPA/CPC advertisers like E*TRADE, Scottrade, and TD AMERITRADE don’t have affiliate programs? In fact, as far as I tell, brokerage firms don’t even use traditional CPM/CPA ad networks to buy media. I don’t really have any insight as to why they would choose not to engage in affiliate […]
I don’t really have any insight as to why they would choose not to engage in affiliate marketing. One thing I would speculate would be that it’s a regulation issue.
Credit cards, health insurance, and other areas are highly regulated, and I would imagine the same goes for brokerage firms.
Perhaps they consider it to be too much trouble to properly screen and monitor affiliates to comply with their industry guidelines, or maybe outsourcing account recruitment in this fashion is just not permissible for them.

From The Email Wars Blog - We All Need a Little Sin
We were very excited to work with HBO/Cinemax on a new project for Sin City Diaries that started it’s inaugural run this month. Our partner KickApps brought us to the table to execute a campaign for this new series with just a few weeks to go. We delivered on time and I think, with a stellar social media site.
We have set it up to be it’s own niche social media and contest site and traffic is already climbing daily. We hope to draw some more visibility and viewers into this new series.
Have a look if you need a little Sin today.

From Aaron Wall’s SEO Book - Business.com Directory 20% Off Promotional Code
In a recent interview Jessica Bowman offered the following Business.com coupon code: AVIVA, which is good for 20% off Business.com directory listings. Inclusion typically costs $199 a year, so with the coupon you would pay $159 for your submission. Read more…

Posted on PPC Discussions Blog - Dynamic Keyword Insertion Question
Dynamic keyword insertion can be a great tool in AdWords (and other PPC engines that offer it) when used properly. An interesting question about DKI popped up at DP today. “What I want to know is this - since having the search term in your advert improves its relevance (particularly in the headline), does DKI ensure a very relevant advert, or the opposite (does Google penalise you or reward you Read more…
From Got Ads Blog - The Book on Facebook
I admit that I’ve been caught up in the Facebook hype. Marc Andressen’s post on their API has caught a lot of attention, and for anyone building web stuff, a ready audience of 25 million active users is hard to ignore.
So I went to Amazon and bought the only book I could find about Facebook - Inside Facebook. It’s written by an engineer who worked there for all of 1 year. He was a bit of an outsider being the only guy over 30 for a long time and not being part of founder Zuckerberg’s Harvard mafia.
The book really doesn’t have a great deal of info in it, it’s short, full of links, and better consumed as a PDF. It’s more like a series of blog entries.
About 20% of the book is actually about Facebook, covering the names / titles of the early employees, a bit of the vision, and some anecdotes / factoids. For example, Zuckerberg has two business cards, one with the title: CEO and another that says I’m the CEO… bitch. Zuck also doesn’t like coffee much.
If you want to know who the braintrust is at Facebook, you’ll at least learn their names: Dustin Moskovitz, DeAngelo, Jeff Rothschild, Matt Cohler, etc.
Overall, the book is underwhelming, but if you are thinking of interviewing at Facebook, or partnering with them, it’s definitely worth the $10 bucks and 40 minutes it takes to read. Read more…

Posted On Search Engine Roundtable - Does Google AdWords Track Google Checkout Conversions?
If you integrate Google Checkout into your AdWords campaign and have the Google Checkout badge displayed in your Sponsored Results, is there a way to track what keywords led a user to click on the Google Checkout badge? In a Google Groups thread, that question is asked.
However, I really want to know which keywords are leading to purchases. Is this possible using the simple Google Checkout “Buy Now Buttons”?
The answer is no, unfortunately, according to Deborah of the Google Checkout Team. She writes:
Currently, you can’t use AdWords conversion tracking with Google Checkout “Buy Now” buttons. If you’ve integrated via the Google Checkout API, however, you can use Analytics to track buyers through your checkout process. More information on using Analytics with Google Checkout can be found here:
http://code.google.com/apis/checkout/developer/checkout_analytics_integration.html
Why doesn’t Google Checkout work with Google AdWords? That makes no sense to me. I hope that this is a work in progress for the Google AdWords and Google Checkout teams.
